Over the past year as a LET 1 I've learned and developed many leadership skills which have helped me in many different areas of my life. I've been given different responsibilities and opportunities which have helped me to learn and grow. A few of the specific things which I learned this year include the importance of leading by example and that in order to reach your goals it requires hard work. It's very important that as a leader you set a good example for your followers and subordinates. You should never expect others to do something that you wouldn't be willing to do yourself. Otherwise, you will have a hard time motivating your follows to accomplish their tasks. Over the past year, I've watched many leaders set very good examples and I've tried my best to do the same. I've also learned the importance of hard work. I've learned that when you want to accomplish a goal, you can't simply expect it to come to you. You have to work hard and dedicate yourself to it.When you want a leadership position, you can't just mess around all the time and expect your rank to be handed to you. You have to earn it through hard work and sacrifice. When you set a goal, it requires a lot of energy and effort in order to accomplish that goal. Steven Chevrier Period 2 5/13/12
In my first year of JROTC as a Let 1 I have learned many new things about being a leader. I have learned that I need to speak out and take charge when things are not going right. I have also learned about when it is better to not talk and show respect to the person in charge. OVer this year I have become less quiet and able to perform better in front of people. During this year I have been exposed to many new leadership situations. In the classroom I have had to be a leader by helping people with their work when they didn't understand it. On the days of Physical Training I have had to help keep the cadets under control and help the other leaders prepare the cadets for the day of the physical challenge. I have also been a leader when we have been playing games outside like football. I have stepped up to try to help my team win by offering play suggestions. All of these situation are examples of how I demonstrated my leadership skills, even though they very different situations.
During my LET 1 year, I have definitely learned a lot of new leadership skills. These skills that I learned helped me become the person I am right now, and it made me become stronger than I was in the beginning of the year. Throughout the experience of being in a LET 1 class of Army JROTC, I want to definitely keep these skills as I progress into becoming a better leader. I am able to learn these skills with the help of the cadets in the classroom as well as my leaders.
I have learned when the times get bad, I just need to suck it up and just cope with it. I would always complain about everything during my middle school years, and looking back at how I was, I don't even know how I would even deal with myself. When I am in tough situations, I would be calm and think of better solutions that makes other people and myself satisfied. I admit that I have gone through many bad situations, but I learned how to cope with it or deal with it the best way possible.
Another skill that I learned was when people is in need, I have to jump in and help them with my best abilities. Before taking the JROTC course, I would always work for myself and not bother to help anyone when they needed my help. Now, if anyone needs my help, even if it's mentally or physically, I would help them so they could achieve their task. I would help people perform tasks when they are confused or not know what to do. Therefore, I learned this very important lesson in becoming a leader.
I learned to be more physically fit with the help of the Cadet Challenge. I couldn't even run a mile with a good score because of my lazy habits and unfit body. However, after participating in the Cadet Challenge and the Physical Training labs, I have coped with the pain and became better at something I never imagined that I could even do. In the first week of school, I participated in the Physical Training lab and I felt that I couldn't run really well and that I would just fail, but I have learned to work harder and achieve something that I want.
In conclusion, there are many skills that I learned throughout the LET 1 JROTC course and it made me become a stronger person than I was in the beginning of the year. These leadership skills help me go through all the good and bad times during my freshman year and I hope that I can learn more leadership skills as I become a leader. Taking JROTC has changed me and I am glad that it did, because it changed me in a positive way.
During this year as a LET 1, I've learned many leadership skills. At times I may not show them, but I've observed skills such as communication, & respect and I use them in leadership positions outside of class. As a squad leader this year, I learned how I need to use different types of approaches for different situations, and use different types of communication with different people also.
This year, I haven't really taken this class seriously. While in LET1, I have learned some very useful life skills. Going back to the communication, I had to realize that I cant talk to everyone the same. Some people you cant use the same communication techniques with. By learning how to communicate properly with people, I can control my squad, and show that I can also be a leader.
Another thing that I am learning now, is to learn to control what I say to people & how I say it. Sometimes I say unnecessary, mean things to people, and that is very disrespectful. I never wanted to listen to any of the leaders because i knew that they were my age, but I learned that it doesn't matter what age you are, its still not right to disrespect others, in any way.
I think I've come a slightly better person from being in JROTC, from learning these new skills. I try to use these skills, and think about what i say, on a daily basis.
This year during my let 1,i have learned allot of things that have made me a better cadet and a better cadet.I have learned how to behave the proper ways at all times and always make the right choice.I have learned the right ethiques and the right way to dress for a important event.I have learned how to become a leader, after many years of been yes a simple person and the right way to lead.I have learned drill really good and from the first day i started to this day on i have gone much better.
I have learned to work as a team and never give up no matter how difficult something is,you always got to try hard and be motivated at all times.I have learned to write essay on the proper way and also using all the thinking maps show in the cadet handbook.I have learned to fold the flag and how the whole Blue Devil Battalion structure works.I have learned to use my uniform the right way and know the rules of JROTC. Wen i was an XO this year i learned that been a leader is a major role on everyone not yes yourself.Been a leader means that at all times u have to do the right thing or other wise, some else will take your spot.I have learned that if you don't motivated you own team or your members you will never get far in life, motivation is the key to leadership. While been an leader i learn to understand others better and help them on what they need help with.
This year during as a LET 1 I have acquired many leadership abilities. I have learned how to motivate people and help them become better leaders. I have helped people in the class and out of class. An experience I have had as being a leader was I was once a platoon leader and during class I would take charge I help people in my company complete their portfolios and achieve a lot I have also helped cadets get promoted. I have also learned that you cannot be a leader without followers you need to be able to get along with people. They might not always think the way you think but that’s were communication skills come in hand. This year I have learned a lot and I have accomplished a lot from C/PFC to C/1LT.
